CHISPAS, an on-campus organization that promotes immigrant rights, will be hosting a silent art auction and raffle on Friday at 6 p.m. at the District on 62nd Clubhouse in Gainesville, Fla. The proceeds will go towards a private scholarship designed to give financial relief to undocumented high school seniors who will be enrolling in a Florida community college or university. For more information, please visit www.chispasuf.org.
CHISPAS members wrote on the 34th Street Wall to promote their campaign, Undocumented Not Uneducated, which asks the Board of Trustees to create a new policy change that would allow undocumented students an equal opportunity to attend UF. For more information about the campaign or to sign the online petition go to www.facebook.com/undocumentednotuneducated
CHISPAS supports the 2012 Campaign for an American Dream, which is a walk across the country by five undocumented students to raise awareness about the DREAM Act. If you support this as well or want to learn more information about it visit cadwalk2012.org! Act now. DREAM now!
The Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) will be hosting its 6th Annual Congress at the University of Florida in Gainesville from Friday to Sunday.
About 250 Floridians are expected to rally together and celebrate immigrant advocacy as well as prepare for the challenges coming up for the 2012 legislative session. For more information about the Congress, visit the Facebook event.
We would like to hear your opinion students! Many undocumented students come to this country at a very young age. They go to school thinking they are Americans until, one way or another, they find out they do not have the same privileges as their classmates. These kids are valedictorians, community leaders and the future of America.
But… what do you think? Do you think UF should openly accept undocumented students?
CHISPAS is currently working on a documentary that sheds light on the struggles undocumented youth faces. We would love to hear from some of you DREAMers! You can make this anonymous or you can share your true name if you are unafraid. This is not for any media publication, this is just so we can show our supporters (and opponents) why the DREAM Act makes sense.
SHARE YOUR VOICE. SHARE YOUR STORY. AND DREAM ON.
